Jeffrey Bornstein and Andrew Spore assisted a former Army officer and Afghanistan War veteran in connection with a criminal fraud and tax prosecution in the Northern District of California. Jeff was appointed by the Court following concerns that the prior retained lawyer had provided grossly ineffective assistance of counsel. Jeff and Andy helped to secure a favorable plea agreement, worked with experts to elucidate underlying medical issues including PTSD that caused or contributed to the underlying criminal conduct in the first instance, and then effectively argued for and obtained a substantially reduced sentence before the district court.
