Michael Bien and Jane Kahn are longtime, beloved NIF and San Francisco Jewish community leaders. Fueled by boundless energy and a deep commitment to social justice, Michael and Jane are perhaps best known for their decades of work for prison reform.

Michael serves as Chair of the San Francisco Regional Board and as a member of NIF’s International Council. He is managing partner of Rosen Bien Galvan & Grunfeld LLP, a well-known litigation boutique with a diverse trial and appellate practice. He has received numerous awards, including California Lawyer Attorney of the Year for Constitutional Law and Best Lawyers in America for Commercial Litigation.

Jane is Of Counsel at RBGG, where she practices constitutional and civil rights law. Previously, she was a staff attorney at the Prison Law Office and Legal Aid, and a family law mediator. In 2012, Jane received the California Women Lawyers’ Fay Stender Award.

Michael and Jane have also held lay leadership roles at Camp Tawonga, Brandeis Hillel Day School, the Prison University Project, the Disability Task Force of Jewish Family and Children’s Services, and Congregation Beth Sholom, to name a few, and taken numerous social justice missions to Israel with NIF. They clearly embody the highest ideals of tikkun olam and we are thrilled to honor Michael and Jane with NIF’s Guardian of Democracy Award.
