Rosen Bien Galvan & Grunfeld LLP is pleased to announce that Caroline E. Jackson has been elevated to Senior Counsel effective January 1, 2023.  Caroline received both a Masters’ degree in Education and a Law degree from Stanford University in 2011.  She joined the firm in 2019 after serving as a staff attorney at the National Association of the Deaf and clerking for the Honorable R. Guy Cole, Jr., now Judge and formerly Chief Judge, of the United States Court of Appeal for the Sixth Circuit. Caroline is fluent in American Sign Language, obtained the National Interpreter Certification in 2007, and has significant experience, both at the trial and appellate levels, pursuing ADA and Rehabilitation Act claims on behalf of deaf and hard of hearing individuals.

“This promotion strengthens our already robust disability and civil rights practice areas,” said Gay Grunfeld, the firm’s Managing Partner.  “Caroline is a superb lawyer and colleague who will continue to advance the rights of our clients and help us effectuate our vision of advancing justice and creating a more diverse, inclusive and equal society.”

The firm also announced the retirement of partner Jeffrey L. Bornstein as an equity partner effective January 1, 2023.  Jeff will continue to work as a retired partner on criminal, SEC and related civil cases during this year.  Jeff, a 1981 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley Law School, joined the firm in 2015 following nearly two decades in the criminal and civil divisions of the San Francisco United States Attorney’s Office and ten years as partner with a major international law firm.  Jeff developed a robust government enforcement, white collar defense and internal investigations practice, while also participating actively in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California’s Criminal Justice Act panel.  In addition, Jeff spearheaded the approval of a major consent decree mandating improved mental health care and other fundamental changes for people incarcerated in Alameda County’s Santa Rita Jail. He also represented several key witnesses and victims in the just concluded federal criminal trial against the former warden of FCI Dublin.

“We appreciate Jeff’s dedicated and effective service to our clients, and wish him the very best in his next chapter,”  Gay Grunfeld noted.
