Advocates for members of the LGBTQ and Drag communities have entered into discussions with Lyft, Inc. to ensure that LGBTQ riders and those wearing drag attire or regalia are provided full and equal use of transportation services offered by Lyft drivers. These collaborative efforts are underway between Lyft, Inc. (Lyft), Rosen Bien Galvan & Grunfeld LLP (RBGG), and the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) – attorneys for several LGBTQ persons and drag performers who have raised concerns regarding full and equal use of Lyft’s platform and the transportation available through the platform. Lyft has indicated that it is committed to providing services to all members of the LGBTQ and drag communities.
RBGG and NCLR contacted Lyft to present these concerns after certain community members reported difficulties obtaining rides from drivers on Lyft’s platform. Lyft’s policy requires that drivers on its platform accept LGBTQ individuals and those attired in drag, and Lyft agreed to work with these advocates to ensure that such individuals are not denied rides or provided a lesser quality of service on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, gender expression, and/or gender identity.
The parties are working on specific initiatives to ensure full and equal use of transportation available through Lyft’s platform for all LGBTQ individuals and those attired in drag.
